Frequently Asked Questions
What made you start writing?
J. M.: The voices in my head demanded it. Lol. Seriously though--I was raised by a storyteller. My dad loved to entertain people. I heard the same stories dozens of times growing up but they never got old. It wasn't the way a fish turned into a whale after a few tellings or how a single glance somehow became a meaningful moment with a complete stranger in his eyes. It was him. Every gesture. Every facial expression. My dad was captivating. Fully immersed in drawing people into his world. I have little charm when it comes to public speaking, but I found a voice (snarky, sarcastic, highly suggestive) when writing. Maybe writing stories makes me feel closer to him. Maybe the voices truly have taken over. And maybe I let them.
What's your favorite food--
J. M.: Chocolate. Next question.
Do you have any hobbies?
J. M.: Besides terrorizing my fictional characters? I'm a third generation artist; acrylics, plaster, pastels, clay, film. I've never met an art material I didn't like. 99% of the photos/artwork in my house are mine spanning my entire life. Viewing my walls and shelves is a bit like a museum of ME at this point.
What are your goals as an author?
J. M.: Short term?
Write books. Sell a gazillion copies. Go back to school. Live happily ever after.
Long term...?
Write stories that inspire, transform, and delight readers.
Because Books. Are. Magic. (And who doesn't long for a sprinkle of fairy dust over their lives?)
